The Mall Tavern

I went to photograph some food at the Mall Tavern last week. It is a beautiful English pub in Nottinghill Gate famous for it’s chicken Kiev and cow pie (Both of which are amazing by the way!). The pub is owned by top chef Jesse Dunford wood. Jesse prepares and serves all the English classic such as Artic roll, but with a modern twist. The pub itself is a fantastic place to visit. It has a great atmosphere and the staff are all friendly and polite.

The first dish I photographed was the starter ‘Old spot pork pie with Rabbit-Row-Relish and radishes. As you can see it’s not your traditional pork pie, it has much lest pastry with I think is a definite plus.

Here is the famous Chicken Kiev (the traditional spelling is Chicken Kyiv!). It tastes amazing and I definitely recommend trying it. The kiev is served on top of a hash brown with a side of coleslaw.

Here is a side of soda bread served on a lovely wooden board. Fantastic with soup or as a light starter.

This is the cow pie , and yes, it was as tasty as it looks! The meat was so succulent and the pastry was so light. I also loved the funky twist of serving each pie with a piece of bone marrow in the middle. The bone acted as a pie funnel to release the heat as the pie cooked. I think it’s such a cleaver idea!

Here’s a close-up of some of the juicy meat- It was amazing!!!

This is a beautiful looking dish served in an kitsch glass bowl and a cup that reminds me of the holy grail from Indian Jones. This is ‘Pheasant eggs & celery salt’.

Just gorgeous presentation!

This dish is entitled ‘PGT Village’ smoked salmon & soda bread. The Salmon is smoked on the premises and is very yummy.

Here we have the pork and a green bean salad. A lovely, colourful dish.

Now onto desert….. Here we have Elderflower jelly and ice cream. I just love how old school and typically British this dish looks. Every kid has grown up on jelly and ice cream and it’s so nice to see it served here for grown-ups.

I grew up eating Artic Roll so it was so nice to see it on the menu. It comes in a variety of different flavours: Classic, CAMP Coffee, Banana Bread, Jack’s Passion, Builders Tea & Curry flavour. I must admit I have only tried the Classic flavour, but the next time I go back to the Mall Tavern I am definately going to have to try the Coffee and banana flavours.

This is the English Strawberry Cheesecake. It was amazing!!!

It’s not a traditional looking cheesecake but it is a taste sensation!

The Mall Tavern has a dinning area and pub downstairs. Upstairs there is a room you can hire for parties up to 15 for dinner and 25 people for drinks. There is also another delight available- That’s the Chef’s Table.

The table is situated in the kitchen and the food is served directly to you by the chefs. It is also a little cooking lesson for you and your friends. It can seat up to 12 people.

I had such a great time photographing the food for Jesse at The Mall Tavern. To find out more information about the Mall Tavern, then please go to www.themalltavern.com
